Delivering a fully integrated public transport hub

Porth Transport Hub

Porth Transport Hub is a new, multi-modal transport facility designed to serve both bus and rail passengers, operating as a high-traffic public space around the clock.

Rhondda Cynon Taf required a complete Mechanical, Electrical, Fire and Security installation delivered to a high standard of safety, reliability and long-term performance. As a publicly accessible building, systems needed to work seamlessly together to protect both infrastructure and passengers, while supporting efficient day-to-day operation.

Appointed through a competitive tender process, Tremorfa delivered a fully coordinated, multi-discipline installation - combining technical expertise, design responsibility and structured project delivery across a 12-month programme.

Our Approach

Coordinated delivery from day one

This was a fully integrated Design & Build project, involving multiple departments across Tremorfa working together from early-stage planning through to completion.

While the initial design formed part of the tender package, our teams took ownership of design responsibility as the project progressed - reviewing specifications, refining system layouts and ensuring full compliance with current regulations.

By combining mechanical, electrical, fire and security expertise under one coordinated programme, we ensured every system worked as part of a single, cohesive environment rather than a collection of standalone installations.

Our approach

One project team, complete oversight

With multiple disciplines operating on-site, clear communication and structured management were critical.

A dedicated project manager oversaw all activity, coordinating between departments, engineers and subcontractors to resolve challenges quickly and maintain programme continuity.

This centralised approach ensured:

  • Consistent decision-making across all systems
  • Efficient issue resolution
  • Seamless integration between trades

The result was a controlled, well-managed installation process from start to finish.

Our approach

Built for real-world public use

As a transport hub open to the public 24/7, safety, accessibility and reliability were central to every decision.

We delivered a complete protection and communication infrastructure, including:

  • Fire detection and voice alarm systems to manage emergency situations
  • Access control to secure staff-only areas
  • CCTV coverage to support monitoring and incident response

Together, these systems create a safe, controlled environment for both passengers and staff, without disrupting the flow of a busy public space.

Our approach

Managing complexity on site

Working alongside a live railway environment introduced additional logistical and safety challenges, requiring careful planning and coordination throughout the programme.

Despite these constraints, the project was delivered smoothly, with challenges such as system integration and access control coordination resolved through practical, experience-led solutions.

By maintaining a consistent workflow and identifying opportunities to progress independently of other trades, the team ensured momentum was never lost.

From structured cabling and containment to plant room layouts and system interfaces, every element was delivered with a high level of care and consistency - resulting in a clean, organised and “picture-perfect” installation that reflects the standard of work across all disciplines.

The outcome

A safe, reliable and future-ready transport hub

The completed Porth Transport Hub now operates as a fully integrated, high-performing public facility.

Passengers benefit from a safe, accessible environment, while operators have the systems in place to manage the building efficiently and respond to incidents with confidence.

By delivering a complete package across mechanical, electrical, fire and security systems, Tremorfa provided a future-ready infrastructure that supports both daily operation and long-term performance.

Most importantly, every system works together - creating a transport hub that is not only functional, but dependable at scale.
