Ystrad Mynach Custody Suite required a significant upgrade to align with national custody estate guidance and match the modern systems already in place at Newport Central. Gwent Police needed both sites operating to the same standard, not only for compliance but to ensure staff could move seamlessly between locations with complete familiarity and confidence.
This was a strategic investment in safety, interoperability and operational resilience, delivered to a non-negotiable deadline ahead of peak seasonal demand.

Our fully vetted, in-house specialist security engineers worked in close coordination with construction and electrical teams to maintain programme integrity. In high-risk environments, there is no margin for error. Systems must function flawlessly from day one.
We delivered a fully integrated staff safety and communication solution, centred around our Tasicca® specialist security platform. Staff attack alarm strips were installed throughout operational areas, allowing officers to raise immediate assistance in the event of confrontation. Intelligent LED indicators guide responders directly to the incident, reducing response times and eliminating confusion.
Within cells, secure intercom and telephony systems enable detainees to communicate directly with the charge desk. Calls from solicitors or family members can be patched safely into the cell, reducing unnecessary movement around the suite and lowering confrontation risk. Every element was designed to complement, not complicate, the operational environment.
Custody suites are unpredictable and demanding workplaces. Officers interact daily with individuals who may be distressed, intoxicated or volatile. Our solution includes timed guard protection for officers conducting welfare checks inside cells, automatically raising an alert if assistance is required.
The front-end interface provides clear, real-time visibility of the entire suite, managing multiple requests through a structured queuing system that prevents audio overload and maintains control at busy charge desks. Technology must support operational flow, not hinder it.
Security is not only about visible devices. Behind the scenes, containment, cabling and server environments were delivered to the highest standard, ensuring long-term reliability and maintainability. A structured installation reduces downtime, simplifies fault-finding and protects the force’s investment over time.
Because we maintain what we install, precision matters. A system that looks ordered and professional behind the scenes performs better in front of it.
Since completion, the suite benefits from improved staff confidence, safer detainee communication and enhanced audit capability. Management teams can monitor response times and demonstrate compliance with inspection standards, strengthening transparency and accountability.
Most importantly, the environment now works with its users. By delivering systems that complement rather than complicate daily operations, Gwent Police have invested not only in infrastructure but in the wellbeing and safety of the people who rely on it every day.
Our specialist security team delivered hands-on training to custody staff, ensuring every system is understood, trusted and ready for live operation from day one.
Our dedicated demonstration facility in Cardiff allows you to experience a full-scale custody environment, explore integrated alarm and communication systems, and understand exactly how they operate in real-world scenarios.
